Civil War letters of John and James Booker, and Bible pages [manuscript], 1861-1864.

The collection contains twenty-two Civil War letters of John and James Booker of Pittsylvania County, Virginia to their cousin Chloe Unity Blair. The brothers write about life in camp, construction of breastworks, picket duty, rations, illness, marches, trading with the enemy and Quakers, speculators, the Gettysburg campaign and losses during Pickett's charge, conscripts and substitutes, and poor treatment of prisoners of war. Colonel Joseph Robert Cabell is mentioned. The collection also contains pages from family Bibles containing birth and death dates, military records of the brothers including their stays in Richmond hospitals, and electrostatic copies of two photographs.
